Position Title: Preparatory Teacher (Job-Share Contract)

Schedule: Part-Time | Thursdays & Fridays (0.4 FTE)

Contract Duration: September 3 – December 11

Located in West Moonah, Tasmania, Hilliard Christian School is an independent, co-educational school operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church, offering holistic education from Early Learning through Year 10. Role Overview

Seeking a dynamic and passionate Preparatory Teacher to join our early learning team on a fixed-term contract covering Thursdays and Fridays. You will foster a nurturing, engaging, and structured environment that supports the academic, social, and emotional development of young learners during their crucial first year of school. This position works closely in a collaborative job-share arrangement to ensure seamless continuity of learning and care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Instruction & Delivery: Implement engaging, curriculum-aligned lessons focusing on foundational literacy, numeracy, play-based learning, and social-emotional skills.

  • Job-Share Collaboration: Maintain clear, consistent communication with the Monday–Wednesday partner teacher to align on curriculum tracking, individual student needs, and classroom management strategies.

  • Classroom Management: Establish and maintain clear routines, positive behavioural support, and an inclusive classroom environment where young children feel safe and confident.

  • Assessment & Reporting: Monitor and document student growth, adapting teaching strategies to support diverse learning styles and developmental stages.

  • Community Engagement: Maintain professional, open communication with parents, caregivers, and support staff regarding student progress and wellbeing.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood or Primary) or recognised equivalent.

  • Valid TRB teaching registration and WWVP working with children clearances.

  • Demonstrated understanding of early childhood pedagogy and preparatory curriculum standards.

  • Strong organisational skills with a proven track record of effective team collaboration.

  • Ability to quickly build rapport with young children and establish consistent classroom structures.
