We acknowledge students as individuals and promote a sense of community and respect for all. There is a strong sense of tradition and history, broad academic curriculum and co-curricular program.

The school commenced in 1849 and is the oldest academically selective school in NSW. In 1974 it became co-educational on the current site at Taverners Hill, Petersham.

The sesqui-centenary was celebrated in 1999. The school values its diverse population from over 100 suburbs in Sydney.
