Job Summary

Relieving Head Teacher Human Society and Its Environment (HSIE) at Denison College of Secondary Education – Kelso High Campus in Bathurst NSW

Applications close: Wednesday 8 July 2026 at 5pm.

Contract: 28 January 2027 – 20 December 2027 with likely extension and/or early commencement for the right applicant.

Total Annual Remuneration Package (1.0 FTE): Remuneration package valued at $168,946.00 per year. This position attracts an annual base salary of $149,059.00, plus leave loading and employer's contribution to superannuation.

Position Information:

Expressions of Interest are invited to fill a temporary full-time (1.0 FTE) position in the role of Head Teacher HSIE at Kelso High Campus for the 2027 school year, with the possibility of extension and/or early commencement.

Teaching load: 32 periods (0.7 FTE).

Denison College of Secondary Education - Kelso High Campus is a comprehensive public high school with 815 students, including 160 Aboriginal students, located in the city of Bathurst NSW, three hours drive from the Sydney CBD. Selection Criteria:

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

The selection process involves:

  • submission of a current resume with contact details for two school-based referees who are familiar with, and able to discuss, your abilities and suitability for this position. One of your referees must be your current/most recent supervisor.
  • submission of a written application addressing the specific selection criteria below (approximately two pages)
  • verbal referee reports and
  • an informal interview.

Specific Selection Criteria:

1.    Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice.

2.    Demonstrated ability to plan and implement curriculum reforms that develop high-quality teaching and learning programs, emphasising explicit teaching methods across multiple junior and senior HSIE subject areas.

3.    Capacity to guide and assist staff in developing evidence-based inclusive and responsive strategies to address the needs of diverse learners, including those with disabilities, complex needs, and trauma backgrounds.

4.      Demonstrated capacity to lead the development and implementation of strategic priorities through faculty planning and professional learning.
