Job Summary

Writing Teacher – Structured Writing Program (Primary & Junior Secondary)

📍 Gordon, NSW
💰 $70+ per hour depending on experience + performance bonus

S.A.M Gordon Centre is seeking passionate and thoughtful writing teachers who believe that strong writing can be developed through structured guidance, thoughtful feedback, and meaningful practice.

Our writing program focuses on helping students become clear thinkers and confident communicators. Through carefully designed lessons and structured writing practice, students learn how to develop ideas, organise their thoughts, and express themselves with clarity and confidence.

Teachers are supported by a structured curriculum, including the IDEA Writing Method, writing portfolios, and a feedback system that encourages students to improve their work through drafting, revising, and rewriting.

We are looking for teachers who enjoy helping students grow as writers and thinkers, and who value student progress over simply completing tasks.

Responsibilities

• Teach writing classes for primary and junior secondary students
• Guide students through the writing process: brainstorming, planning, drafting and revising
• Provide clear, constructive feedback on student writing
• Help students develop stronger ideas, structure, and language use
• Encourage students to revise and improve their work through feedback

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for teachers who:

• Enjoy teaching writing and language
• Believe writing skills can be developed through structured teaching and practice
• Are patient, supportive, and encouraging with young learners
• Can provide clear and practical feedback on student writing
• Value student improvement and growth, not just task completion

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience as a school English teacher, tutor, or writing instructor
• Experience teaching writing, literacy, or English
• Strong understanding of paragraph structure and writing development
• Ability to guide students through brainstorming, planning, and drafting

What We Offer

• A supportive and collaborative teaching environment
• A structured curriculum and teaching resources
• Small group classes with engaged students
• Opportunities to contribute to curriculum development
Competitive hourly rate: $70+ per hour depending on experience
Performance bonus based on class size
