About Currambena:

Currambena is a democratic/progressive school on Cammeraygal land in Lane Cove offering truly child-centred education for both pre- and primary school children. Established in 1969, we were among the first ‘alternative schools’ in Australia. Learning at Currambena is holistic and our flexible curriculum focuses on developing a child’s skills for life as well as strong academic skills for their future.

Currambena has led the way in progressive education, nurturing young minds to become confident, creative thinkers. Here, learning is a boundless adventure, where children are encouraged to explore, question, and discover at their own pace in a range of ways. With our small class sizes and personalised approach, each child’s unique talents and interests are celebrated, fostering a lifelong love for learning. Every child receives the attention they need to flourish academically and emotionally. Through a blend of stage-based and child-led learning, a strong grounding in research and democratic principles, students emerge as empowered, self-assured individuals ready to embrace the challenges of tomorrow.
