Job Summary

Contract: 21 July 2025 – 19 December 2025 with possible extension.

Total Annual Remuneration Package (1.0 FTE): The total annual remuneration package for this classroom teacher position is valued up to $151,034.00 including leave loading and employer's contribution to superannuation. Base salary rates above the minimum are available depending on experience.

Position Information: We require a teacher to cover one of our Stage 5 classes comprising students with Autism and/or Mild Intellectual Disability in our support unit. Please note that it is not essential for the successful applicant to have NSW Department of Education special education teaching codes.

This is a fulltime position, but it may be possible to negotiate part-time work. 

At Kelso High Campus we implement a comprehensive program to support early career teachers, so final year university students are also encouraged to apply. 

Denison College of Secondary Education - Kelso High Campus is a comprehensive public high school with 820 students, including 160 Aboriginal students, located in the city of Bathurst NSW, three hours drive from the Sydney CBD. At Kelso High Campus there is an emphasis on a deep and shared understanding of the individual needs and backgrounds of students and families, supported by positive relationships between staff, students and parents. Our teaching is aligned to student learning data and is responsive to student needs. We work in partnership with our community to build educational aspiration and prepare students for pathways beyond Kelso High Campus.  

The campus offers a comprehensive wellbeing support system and has nine support classes, including one Tutorial (TUT), two Emotional Disturbance (ED), four Autism (AU), one Mild Intellectual Disability (IM) and one Multi-Categorical (MC) class that integrate seamlessly with mainstream classes. The highly skilled teachers in the support unit demonstrate broad knowledge and understanding of legislative requirements and teaching strategies that support the participation and learning of the 71 enrolled students. Our team has a strong emphasis on personal achievement, supported by a well-resourced environment with two full-time head teachers.

Selection Criteria:

Successful applicants must have NSW Department of Education approval to teach in NSW public schools. If you require assistance in obtaining such approval, please contact Sandra Howarth as per the details below.

The selection process involves:

  • submission of a current resume with contact details for two school-based referees who are familiar with, and able to discuss, your abilities and suitability for this position. One of your referees must be your current/most recent supervisor.
  • submission of a written application addressing the specific selection criteria below (maximum of 1 ½ pages)
  • verbal referee reports and
  • an informal interview.

 Specific Selection Criteria:

      1. Approval to teach and/or experience in teaching students with Autism and/or Mild Intellectual        Disability, with demonstrated excellence in individualised classroom teaching practice.        Please note that it is not essential for the successful applicant to have NSW Department of Education special education teaching codes.

  1. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively, proactively and professionally with colleagues, parents and carers, SLSO staff, external support agencies and the wider community.
  2. Demonstrated strong classroom and behaviour management skills and wellbeing practices that support data driven teaching and learning.
