Broke Public School is situated 25km from Singleton and 32km from Cessnock, in the Hunter Valley vineyards, on the traditional lands of the Wonnarua people. It services the town of Broke and outlying properties. The school has a current enrolment of 26 students comprising of 2 multi grade classes, with a student Aboriginal population of 35%. Additionally, we operate a preschool program onsite, which has a current enrolment of 5 students.

About the role

Expressions of interest are invited from suitably qualified applicants interested in a temporary School Learning Support Officer (SLSO) position for the remainder of Term 4 2024.

SLSOs, under the supervision and direction of classroom teachers, assist in classroom activities, school routines, support for student learning and wellbeing, and the care and management of identified students with special needs. The SLSO role is underpinned by a collaborative and consultative approach, working closely with classroom teachers to implement personalised learning programs to help students pursue their personal best in learning.

SLSOs work to maintain positive relationships with students, staff and the wider school community, interacting with parents and carers under the guidance of the classroom teacher.

This position is for 5 days per week, 9am-1pm daily.

Role criteria

Completion of all mandatory training required by the NSW Department of Education, including a current Working with Children Check clearance, and a willingness to undertake training relevant to the role.

Demonstrated commitment to teamwork and strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive and inclusive relationships with students, staff, parents/carers and the wider community.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with the classroom teacher in the teaching and learning environment to implement individual educational programs and support student learning.

Demonstrated commitment to inclusive wellbeing and the ability to support students with a range of social and emotional needs.
