Hymba Yumba Independent School is seeking a suitably qualified P-12 HPE Teacher for a Full-Time contract.

About Our School

Hymba Yumba Independent School (HYIS) Is a small Prep-Year 12 school located in Springfield, 30 minutes from the Brisbane CBD. Founded in 2011, HYIS is grounded in First Nations culture and identity. With an enrolment of 300 jarjum (child/ren) across the school, HYIS allows teachers and jarjum to thrive in a community environment.

About the role

This is a unique opportunity to work with First Nation’s jarjum in a culturally affirming learning environment. You will be provided with the opportunity to learn from key experts to embed First Nations knowledges and perspectives in the Australian curriculum. You will be able participate in the bespoke HYIS pedagogical approach, including working with Elders and community.

Essential Criteria:

C1. Have a tertiary teaching qualification that enables you to teach Health and Physical Education from Prep to Year 12 and hold current Teacher registration with QCT. 

C2. Demonstrate knowledge of the Australian Curriculum (P-12) with recent experience in teaching Health and Physical Education. 

C3. Display sound knowledge of teaching pedagogies and practices with a focus on developing students' knowledge and skills across all General Capabilities of the Australian Curriculum V9.

C4. Be a highly skilled and dedicated teacher that contributes to the team.

C5. Demonstrate understanding of the culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, including cultural protocols and the ability to build respectful relationships with students and their families to produce sound educational outcomes. 

C6. An ability and willingness to organise and participate in school activities and extracurricular activities or duties. 

What you will bring to our team:

  • Ability to maintain high standards of learning and teaching, assessment and reporting that is relevant, collaborative, and future focused.
  • A working knowledge of Australian Curriculum, with knowledge of QCAA Senior Syllabi an advantage. 
  • Have experience or desire to work with First Nations students.
  • Have knowledge and demonstrated understanding (or willingness to attain) of cultural protocols.

About your skills and qualification:

  • Current Queensland College of Teachers registration and a Tertiary Qualifications in Education.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Australian curriculum with recent experience in teaching.
  • Ability to effectively build relationships and foster a safe and supportive learning environment through the development of proactive classroom management strategies.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, including cultural protocols and the ability to build respectful relationships with students and their families to produce sound educational outcomes.
