Alesco Senior College - Why This Role Makes a Difference

Alesco Senior College is an independent, special assistance secondary school catering to students in years 9 to 12, providing vulnerable young people with the opportunity to achieve success in a smaller and more supportive environment. 

Our aim is to offer education to young people whose circumstances have previously prohibited them from succeeding in mainstream education. 

We provide opportunities for these young people to reach their potential in an environment that is designed specifically to support inclusion and individual needs.

About the Role 

We are looking for dynamic, innovative and passionate teacher to join our team in a well-established and highly regarded high school operating in Tuncurry.

This role is fixed term, full-time for Term 3 2022, with the potential to extend beyond depending on school needs.

We invite under graduate, new graduate, post graduate, and/or experienced teaching professionals from both primary and secondary backgrounds to apply.

Conditional, provisional and proficient accreditations welcomed. Alesco supports and partners with our teachers to achieve and maintain accreditation per NESA requirements.

As a Teacher at Alesco Senior College, you will:

• Effectively deliver lessons & supervise students in an engaging and inclusive learning environment.
• Build and maintain supportive relationships with each student.
• Participate and contribute to curriculum development and implementation.
• Follow the outcomes to design program content, and assessments that use a range of educational resources.
• Identify and execute alternative learning strategies and methods of delivery.
• Independently administer behaviour management strategies for students, referring to the Head Teacher and Student Welfare Officer as necessary.
• Actively participate in school events including orientations, graduations, open days, and excursions.
• Uphold the Atwea College and Alesco Senior College philosophies and values.

About You

You already live by the values of Inclusion, Integrity and Innovation. You manage boundaries in your practice with young people well. You conduct yourself professionally but can connect and engage with students and staff in a kind, friendly and easy-going way.

• Teaching qualifications (or nearing completion) in primary and/or secondary. Stages 5 & 6 desired, yet Stages 3 & 4 encouraged to apply.
• Registration with NESA with a Teacher Accreditation Number and Approval to Teach. Conditional, Provisional and Proficient welcome.
• A demonstrated interest in student wellbeing and empowerment.
• Experience working with disadvantaged or at-risk young people.
• Willingness to teach outside your Key Learning Areas (KLAs).
• Personal alignment with Alesco Senior College’s values and philosophy.
• Excellent communication & social skills.
• Show initiative, self-motivation and ability to work unsupervised.
• Team oriented.
• Calm, measured and helpful in disposition.
• Current driver’s license.
• Current First Aid Certificate.
• Current WWCC and National Criminal Police Record Check (or willingness to obtain pre-commencement).
