Job Summary
Magill School is seeking an enthusiastic and capable teacher to join our team in a part-time Chinese (Mandarin) teaching role, working three days per week (most likely to be Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday).
The position will primarily involve teaching Mandarin to upper primary students (Years 4–6), although the exact year levels are yet to be finalised.
Magill School is a high-performing, community-focused school with a strong commitment to high-quality teaching and learning. Our staff work within a culture of collaboration, reflection and continuous improvement, supported by clear school-wide practices that guide planning, teaching and assessment.
We are looking for someone who can deliver engaging and meaningful Mandarin learning experiences while building positive relationships with students and contributing to our collaborative school culture.
The successful applicant will be able to:
Plan and deliver engaging, appropriately challenging Mandarin lessons that develop students' language skills and cultural understanding.
Demonstrate knowledge of Mandarin, with strong language proficiency and previous experience teaching Chinese highly regarded. However, applicants with some Mandarin language knowledge, exposure or relevant experience are also warmly encouraged to apply.
Establish a positive, inclusive and well-managed learning environment, particularly with upper primary students.
Differentiate learning experiences to cater for students with varying levels of prior language knowledge and confidence.
Work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute positively to the wider school community.
Demonstrate a willingness to reflect on their teaching, seek feedback and continually develop their professional practice.
Applications should include:
A current CV outlining teaching history, qualifications and relevant experience.
Referees who can speak to your professional practice.
A personal introduction is also warmly encouraged.
Alongside your application through ClassCover, applicants are invited to send a brief, informal email to Deputy Principal Mike Shortt (mike.shortt451@schools.sa.edu.au) introducing themselves.
We'd love to hear a little about you as a teacher, your experience with Mandarin, what you've enjoyed about teaching so far, and what interests you about joining Magill School.
This doesn't need to be a formal cover letter or an extensive response to selection criteria. It's simply an opportunity for us to get to know the person behind the application, and would be sincerely appreciated.
Due to the expected number of applications, we may only be able to respond to shortlisted applicants.
We look forward to hearing from teachers interested in contributing to the learning and culture of Magill School.
