Job Summary
Parramatta West Public School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate School Learning Support Officer (SLSO) to join our multi-categorical support class in the support unit. The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff to provide tailored support to students with diverse disabilities, fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Assist classroom teachers in implementing individual education plans (IEPs) and support programs for students with disability.
  • Provide direct support to students with varying support needs within the multi-categorical support class setting.
  • Encourage and promote positive student engagement, social skills development, and independence.
  • Assist with personal care and physical support as required, ensuring dignity and respect for students at all times.
  • Support behaviour management strategies in line with school policies and student needs.
  • Collaborate with teachers, allied health professionals, and families to ensure consistent and effective support strategies.
  • Help prepare and maintain classroom resources and learning materials.
  • Monitor and report on student progress and well-being to teaching staff.
  • Ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all students.

Selection Criteria:


  • Previous experience working in a support unit or with students with disability is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of the needs of students with disability and strategies to support their learning and well-being.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and communicate effectively with students, staff, and families.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine commitment to supporting students.
  • Basic skills in managing behaviour and ensuring student safety.
  • Willingness to undertake training and professional development.

Qualifications:


Certificate III or IV in Education Support or equivalent qualification preferred.

Current Working with Children Check and relevant clearances.



Additional Information:

This role is full-time, requiring attendance five days per week in a dynamic and supportive team environment. The position is based in a multi-categorical support class setting, catering to a range of student needs.
