Teacher Librarian (0.4 FTE)

Position Title: Teacher Librarian
Classification: Classroom Teacher (NSW Department of Education)
Fraction: 0.4 FTE (2 days per week - Monday and Tuesday)

The Teacher Librarian plays a vital role in fostering a love of reading, supporting information literacy, and enriching teaching and learning across the school. The successful applicant will manage the school library as a welcoming, engaging and future-focused learning environment while delivering a dynamic library program that develops students' literacy, inquiry, research and critical thinking skills.


Working collaboratively with classroom teachers, the Teacher Librarian will promote literature, support curriculum delivery and ensure the library remains an innovative hub for learning, creativity and discovery.


Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

  • Plan and deliver engaging weekly library lessons for students K–6.
  • Foster a lifelong love of reading through high-quality literature and literacy experiences.
  • Differentiate learning to meet the diverse needs of all students.
  • Promote creative thinking, curiosity and independent learning.

Library Management

  • Manage the day-to-day operation of the school library.
  • Develop and maintain an attractive, organised and contemporary library environment.
  • Catalogue, process and maintain library resources.
  • Evaluate and develop the collection to meet curriculum needs and student interests.
  • Manage library borrowing systems and oversee circulation of resources.
  • Ensure library resources are accessible, relevant and well maintained.

Reading Promotion

  • Promote reading for pleasure through innovative programs and events.
  • Recommend quality literature for students across all year levels.
  • Support classroom reading programs and literature circles.

Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with teachers to support curriculum planning.
  • Source resources that enhance classroom teaching.
  • Support inquiry-based learning and research projects.
  • Provide advice on children's literature and digital resources.

Selection Criteria

The successful applicant will demonstrate:

  • Approval to teach in NSW 
  • A passion for children's literature and developing confident, enthusiastic readers.
  • Excellent organisational and library management skills.
  • Knowledge of contemporary library systems and digital technologies.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a professional learning community.
  • A commitment to evidence-informed teaching practices.
  • The capacity to create engaging, inclusive and inspiring learning experiences.
