Job Summary
The Stephanie
Alexander Kitchen- Food Technician is an important role in supporting the
school’s Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden student experience. This program
supports the garden, to kitchen, to table experience in Years 3-6 by focusing
on the health and wellbeing of students by delivering fun, hands-on and
inclusive food education across the school.
The SAKG
program equips children with the skills to grow, harvest, prepare and share
fresh, affordable and culturally diverse food, enabling them to develop
positive food, wellbeing and sustainability skills for life.
The position is
responsible for the following:

Food
Preparation & Practical Lesson delivery
- Lead in the development of recipe
construction and food prep requirements.
- Liaise with Garden teacher regarding
required vegetables during the year.
- Organise lesson set up and pack
down
- Organise and prepare trays of
ingredients for classes.
- Coordinate clean up during lessons.
- Assist students during practical
classes.
- Maintain hygiene and safety
standards in the food tech room.
Ordering
& Purchasing
- Order from MSPS grocer choice.
- Check deliveries
- Maintain stock levels of pantry
staples and ingredients.
Equipment
& Kitchen Maintenance
- Ensure all equipment is clean,
working, and in proper place.
- Maintain and clean workstations,
appliances, sinks, and utensils.
- Report faults and organise
maintenance or replacements.
- Regularly check, wash, and store
linen and cleaning materials.
Organisation
& Administration
- Create and update recipe folders
and food order lists.
- Label food items, organise
pantry/cupboards.
- Check deliveries and handle
invoices.
- Liaise with suppliers (if required)
and Business Manager for scheduling and ordering.
End-of-Year
Tasks
- Deep clean all kitchen areas and
equipment.
- Discard expired food and reorganise
storage.
- Prepare kitchen for shutdown.
General
- Assist in maintaining a safe and
healthy working environment by following OH&S and risk management
procedures and ensure all contractors comply with DET and school policy
and OH&S requirements.
- The range of duties may be expanded
or altered at any time in the future or as directed by the Principal,
Business Manager in accordance with ES1-3 dimensions of work
