About the Role

Located at our Woodberry Campus, this teaching role is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of program delivery and has involvement in group leadership of the student body.

Please Note: This is a parental leave cover position commencing on in July 2025 until May 2026.

In this Fixed Term, Full Time role, successful applicants should be able to confidently:

• Uphold the Atwea College and Alesco Senior College philosophies and values

• Actively participate in the following:

o Student orientation, graduation, school open days

o School excursions

o Maintaining classroom facilities and equipment

o Basic student or course counselling

• Participate and contribute to curriculum development and implementation.

• Report on student progress as required.

• Identify and execute alternative learning strategies and methods of delivery.

• Effectively deliver lessons, supervise students, and report any incidents, accidents, or potential issues to the Head of Campus.

• Build and maintain supportive relationships with each student in the group.

• Attend and participate in meetings and professional development programs.

• Follow the outcomes to design program content, and assessments that use a range of educational resources.

• Submit programming as requested.

• Identify and respond to the students educational or personal support needs.

About You

• You already live by the values of Inclusion, Integrity and Innovation.

• Mental health first aid certificate or training.

• Senior first aid certificate.

• Experience in an alternative or special education setting.

• Experience working with disadvantaged and at-risk young people.

• Uses empathy to build trust and nurture lasting relationships.

• Demonstrates forward-thinking and awareness of the consequences of own actions.

• Proactively manages career and professional development in a mutually beneficial partnership with the Organisation.

Applicants must meet the required teacher training and academic qualifications for this position. In addition to addressing the general selection criteria outlined below, please incorporate your responses within your cover letter.

  1. Proven success in teaching, with the ability to inspire and engage a diverse student cohort, including those that mainstream is not the right fit as well as those from disadvantaged backgrounds, while driving continuous improvement in classroom practice and learning outcomes.
  2. Comprehensive understanding of curriculum, assessment, and student wellbeing, with the ability to lead the design of inclusive, flexible teaching and learning programs that meet the varied needs of students from non-traditional or disadvantaged backgrounds.
  3. Demonstrated educational leadership skills, with the capacity to build capability within teams and individuals, while supporting innovative and student-centered approaches tailored to those who may face barriers to mainstream learning.
  4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust, foster belonging, and engage effectively with students, staff, and families, particularly in contexts requiring sensitivity, empathy, and cultural awareness.
  5. Strong ability to plan and manage resources equitably and efficiently, ensuring targeted support for teaching and learning initiatives that promote inclusion, accessibility, and positive outcomes for all students, especially those with complex or diverse needs.

Atwea College requires:

• Valid NSW Working With Children Check and current National Criminal Police Record Check prior to the commencement of employment.

• Child Protection Training, or willingness to obtain.

• Drivers License.

Qualifications

• Accredited Teaching degree such as a Bachelor of Education/ Diploma of Education

• Registered with NESA with a teacher Accreditation number. Conditional /provisional or proficient
