About Hymba Yumba Independent School
Located in Springfield, just 30 minutes from Brisbane’s CBD, Hymba Yumba Independent School (HYIS) is a vibrant Prep–Year 12 community. Since our founding in 2011, we’ve provided a culturally affirming environment for 300 jarjum (child/ren). Rooted in First Nations culture and identity, we empower our jarjum to excel academically and thrive personally.
About the Role
We’re seeking a qualified Primary Teacher for a Full-Time 12 month contract with the possibility of extension. This is an extraordinary opportunity to teach in a culturally enriched environment, working alongside Elders and the wider community.

What You’ll Bring
- A commitment to delivering high standards of learning and teaching.
- A solid understanding of the Australian Curriculum (Version 9).
- Passion for working with First Nations students.
- Respect for and understanding of cultural protocols (or a willingness to learn).
Skills and Qualifications
- Current Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) registration.
- Relevant Tertiary Qualification in Education.
- Recent experience teaching the Australian Curriculum.
- Proven ability to create a safe and supportive learning environment using proactive classroom management strategies.
- Understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, with a focus on building respectful relationships with students and their families.
