We are a new, modern school that opened last year and has a current enrolment of 200 students in Years 7, 8 and 9. We have three classes in our Supported Learning Unit, which we call Thrive and one Big Picture Academy class. Curriculum is delivered in Stage 4 by students covering all KLAs in five streams (Quest, Discover, Inspire, Create and Navigate) with Stage 5 exploring their learning through intensive classes in all the mandatory subjects and a choice of several electives through the year. Students and teachers call each other by their first names as part of our culture of building positive, respectful relationships. We are a close-knit team of educators who welcome innovation and sharing of new ideas.
We are a member of the Queanbeyan Network of Schools, which is part of the Rural South West Region. Our enrolment intake area is primarily from Jerrabomberra, with a new estate, Tralee, growing to our south which will also feed into our school. We have only one local feed primary school, Jerrabomberra Public School.
Our school is built on Ngunnawal and Ngambri Land, and we pay our respects to the traditional owners of the land through our logo, our culture and our curriculum. One of our local Aboriginal Elders, Dr Aunty Matilda House, is an amazing woman who ensures we uphold the values of Aboriginal Education, culture and storytelling at Jerrabomberra High School.
