Overview

Dorchester School is an SSP2 school located within the Reiby Juvenile Justice Centre in Campbelltown with a significant Aboriginal enrolment. The school caters to up to 55 incarcerated students (30 female and 25 male) between the ages of 10 and 21. Our students are subject to either court-imposed remand or control orders due to serious criminal offences, and as a result, the length of their enrolment will vary. Students originate from a geographical area covering all of NSW.
Most have a history of learning failure, fractured or chronic non-school attendance, multiple school suspensions, and
long periods away from formal education. Students present with behaviour difficulties, emotional disturbance, and other complex mental health issues.
Teaching and learning for our students are individually tailored to ensure individual success. We aim to prepare students for life beyond and within the school by engaging them in relevant, challenging learning experiences that help close the learning gaps, extend their practical and academic skills, strengthen their resilience and emotional intelligence and promote social responsibility. Dorchester School aims to remain flexible and responsive to change and open to creative solutions that best meet our student's well-being and learning needs.
All school programs and systems are supported by the school's Elements of Learning and Achievement framework. The Elements of Learning and Achievement is a framework designed under the umbrella of the Australian Curriculum and General Capabilities and is made up of seven focus pillars: Functional Literacy, Practical Numeracy, Actions & Choices, Independent Living Skills, Health & Wellbeing, 21st Century Learning, and Global Citizen. This provides the school with a shared vision and a consistent approach to quality teaching. Student learning is underpinned by teachers and leadership, driving the Elements of Learning and Achievement to exhibit high levels of commitment and professionalism.
