Job Summary
Forestville Public School is seeking to fill a temporary School
Learning and Support Officer’s position until the end of 2026. The position is
for five days a week in our Multi-Categorical Support class. You would be
working with a qualified teacher in special education in a class of up to 7
students and would provide integral support to these students.
This rewarding role has a strong positive impact for change in young
people who require assistance with emotional regulation and social skills. You
would work under the direct supervision of a teacher to support the achievement
of educational and social outcomes for students.
Duties always occur under the guidance of the teacher and may include:
- assisting
students with school work 1:1
- preparing
lesson resources eg art set up, photocopying, laminating
- playground
supervision including helping facilitate play
- fun,
informal interactions and conversations with students to help them develop
relational skills.
Essential Requirements
- Working
with Children Check Clearance
- Completion
of mandatory training required by the Department of Education and a
willingness to undertake first aid training relevant to the School
Learning Support Officer role.
- Undertake
further training if required, i.e. Administration of Medications, Health
Support Training based on student needs.

Selection criteria
1. Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to
work as part of a team.
2. Proven ability to work with teachers to support students with diverse
learning needs, including those with challenging behaviours, emotional,
physical, sensory, and/or intellectual disabilities.
3. Ability to work closely with classroom teachers to implement
personalised learning and support plans and engage students with varying
support needs across a range of programs, individually and in small-group
settings.
